Session 8 | The Widow’s Offering

This sermon looked at the gospel where Jesus calls out the hypocrisy of the religious leaders and contrasts this with the widow giving all she had to the temple treasury.  There is a different way of thinking about what we do with our money and God asks us pray and be guided by his Holy Spirit to give sacrificially and this is a symbol of the upside down humble kingdom of Jesus.

Questions to consider:

  1. How do you think the religious leaders might be thinking and feeling on hearing Jesus speak about them in that way?
  2. What do you think might have been the motivation in the heart of the widow when she gave all she had?
  3. When you give money away to others, what is the motivation of your heart?
  4. How can we challenge the economic systems in place and use our resources more ethically?
  5. What will you give this week, either in time, money or resources?
