The opening chapter of Ruth shows us the sacrificial hesed (Hebrew meaning steadfast love) that is shown through the life of Ruth as she offers to give up comfort and familiarity to stay with the mother in law she loves.  Where are we called by God to show that hesed love?

Some questions you may want to consider:

  1. How does the theme of loyalty play out in the chapter?
  2. How does the commitment of Ruth contrast with Orpah’s decision to leave?
  3. What are some of the ways that you have loss in your life?
  4. If you were in Ruth’s position, what would you have done?
